who have a steady job and a lust for the good life. I have the perfect weekend for you. CHICA-
GO!!!
Since getting there is half the fun, forget the plane and take the train. Talk about a hoot! The Amtrak Lakeshore Lid. is a pleasant surprise, relatively inexpensive (currently $62 roundtrip and a page out of the 50's. The food is good, the cars are clean and comfortable, the arrivals and departures convenient and you go from downtown to downtown By leaving Friday morning and coming back Sunday night, you can have a pleasant, hassle-free weekend.
Stay at a downtown hotel (we
stayed at the Lakeshore Holiday Inn) and you won't need to rent a car. This will put you within a 5 minute walk to Water Tower Place, and a $3 cab ride or 60¢ bus or subway ride away from any place you'd want to go. (Cabs are cheaper and more plentiful than here.). If you want to go shopping. Water Tower Place is a must. Situated right downtown at Michigan Ave. & Pearson Street, it is a 7 story mall containing every type of store imaginable plus wall-to-wall Queens! Next take the subway (the subways are clean and graffiti-free!) to "NewTown," the "Gay Ghetto" which is a combination of Lakewood Gold Coast,

Coventry and Shaker Square. Here too. you will find every type of shop including a place called "On Broadway" which is a veritable supermarket of Gay cards, posters and stationery etc. and is run by an ex-Clevelander named Ron.
For your eating and drinking, pleasure we highly recommend the following: "My Brother's Place" This Gay restaurant is hidden away on the second floor at 111 W. Hubbard St. without a sign to announce it. The food is marvelous, patterned after The Marlo's here but the atmosphere is much more intimiate! Another fun place, if you just want to drink, is "Sunday's" at 430 N.
to
Clark St. This kalaidascope of several bars, dance areas, electronic games and movies features something for everyone plus friendly bartenders and a touch of sleaze.
My favorite place, though, is a bar/restaurant/cabaret called "His 'n Hers" at 944 W. Addison Street at the Wrigley Field elevated station. This is the kind of placel wish we had in Cleveland. it is small, with what I gather is a regular clientele. It doesn't pretend to be anything but what it is. A place for everyone to have fun. It's a bar that caters to both men and women. It serves food.... among which is the best ham(Continued on Page 21).
